Just hours after being fired from his position as White House senior advisor Friday, Stephen Bannon declared the Trump presidency over, and said that he was gearing up for war against Republicans and other elements of the administration he disagreed with.He made the comments in a jarring interview with the Weekly Standard.
“I feel jacked up,” he said. “Now I’m free. I’ve got my hands back on my weapons. Someone said, ‘it’s Bannon the Barbarian.’ I am definitely going to crush the opposition. There’s no doubt.”
It was announced that Bannon would return to his position at Breitbart News, which he left to join the Trump administration a year ago.
“I built a f***ing machine at Breitbart. And now I’m about to go back, knowing what I know, and we’re about to rev that machine up. And rev it up we will do.”
He clearly saw his firing as a defeat for the nationalist-populist agenda, and said that the Trump presidency was “over.”
“The Trump presidency that we fought for, and won, is over,” he told the Weekly Standard. “We still have a huge movement, and we will make something of this Trump presidency. But that presidency is over. It’ll be something else. And there’ll be all kinds of fights, and there’ll be good days and bad days, but that presidency is over.”
