Anthony Parrotta, 25, of Kittanning with attempting to steal more than $800 in merchandise from the Butler Commons’ Walmart in November.
Police found the defendant after they got a call for a shoplifter who had fled the store in a small yellow car, according to court documents.
Officers stopped the vehicle in the shopping plaza. Parrotta, a passenger, allegedly gave a bogus name.
Police eventually learned that Parrotta had tried to swipe two hoverboards and a pair of blenders from the store. The merchandise is valued at a combined $894.
He is charged with a first-degree misdemeanor count of retail theft as well as false identification to law enforcement authorities.
