Butler High School wants a later start time so kids can sleep in

The Butler School Board may consider shifting start times to allow high school students to sleep in.

Citing information from medical experts about sleep habits and health in young people, several districts in the region have been considering adjusting high school start times.

Under the current schedule, students at the senior high school report at 7:25 a.m. and have homeroom starting at 7:36 a.m. The earliest bus pickups are at 6:20 a.m., White said.

Elementary students in Butler start their day at 9:15 a.m. A change will not be proposed for the 2018-19 school year.

  1. It’s hard for most kids to get to bed early due to hours of homework sports and making time for dinner with family. The early start time is also the cause of most kids skipping school and recieving fine.
