The accident happened at 5 a.m. Thursday on Route 108 in Worth Township, just east of Interstate 79. And as of this posting, the road is still closed as the mess is cleaned up.
The car caught fire after the crash, trapping the driver. Firefighters had to rescue him by cutting him out of the car. He was seriously injured and taken to a helipad in Cranberry, where he could then be flown to a Pittsburgh hospital.
Following the crash, between 125 and 150 gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the road and then into a small runoff stream that leads to Slippery Rock Creek.
Butler County’s HazMat team was called in to help clean-up. State Police are investigating the crash but have not yet released an accident report.
