Shawn Thomas, 45, of Slippery Rock was charged with being more than twice the state’s legal limit for alcohol and on marijuana in connection with a two-vehicle crash last month in Franklin Township.
Police said moments before the wreck about 1:40 a.m. March 12, Thomas was traveling east in the westbound lanes on Route 422.
He narrowly avoided a head-on collision with a westbound tractor-trailer when he swerved his car into the middle turning lane according to the police report.
He sideswiped the rig just east of Dick Road. A search of the car turned up two containers containing unidentified pills, a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana, and a marijuana pipe.
Police took Thomas to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.189 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law. The defendant tested positive for marijuana also.
Thomas is charged with DUI, driving under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, possession of a small amount of marijuana, disregarding traffic lanes, failing to keep right and careless driving.
