Police refile charges against David Coleman after dropping the charges days ago

David Coleman, 50, was again charged with 16 counts Friday afternoon including felony charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence, fleeing or attempting to elude police, misdemeanor DUI, child endangerment, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest, and a list of other traffic violations.

The charges follow a March 30 incident where police say Coleman led Butler, Butler Township and state police on a chase from the city into Butler Township, after officers attempted to pull him over for running a stop sign. The chase ended on Whitestown Road when Coleman’s vehicle crashed into a state police cruiser.

Last week police forgot about Coleman’s hearing and no showed, in turn all of the charges were dropped and he was released from the Butler County Prison. Police after he was released realized a mistake was made and waited until the next day to refile the charges.

Police suspect Coleman was impaired while driving the sport utility vehicle that was also occupied by a 13-year-old boy, a relative of Coleman’s.

The original case was dismissed by District Judge Kevin O’Donnell after the arresting officers failure to appear. Assistant District Attorney Benjamin Simon previously said the officer was at a required training conference in Harrisburg and apparently was unaware of the hearing. Coleman was subsequently released Thursday after his $100,000 bail was vacated.

An arrest warrant has been issued at this time, Coleman has not turned himself in at the time of this posting.

This is a big black eye to the State, they should not get a second chance. And for the trooper to say he was unaware of the hearing-ya I am calling bullshit on this one. If a person is that big of a danger to society they do not let you out of jail but continue the hearing.

  1. Scratch that. The trooper who was at training was the arresting officer. NOT the one involved in the collision. I just got cleared up on that. So I retract my original comment
